different有多个意思，表示“不同的；不一样的；有区别的”，侧重指与别的东西不同，其英语释义是：not like something or someone else, or not like before, not the same (as)，它的意思与similar比较接近。此时它可以用定语，完全它所修饰的名词根据情况可以单数也可以是复数。

people是单数还是复数
相比于people而言，person是形容单数的词。如果你说I'm a Chinese person，中国人可能会理解为“你是一个中国人”，但在外国人听来，你说的是“我是一个有中国特色的人”。介绍自己“我是一个中国人”这句简单的话，可以直接说I'm Chinese。
people是一个表示复数的单词，只能用来表示“2个及以上的人群”。因此“people”这个词，其含义并不是我们想象中的“人”。
